What We Do

After graduating from the police academy and completing the field training program, reserve police officers then work  independently, as solo-capable police officers, in uniform patrol. They wear the same uniform, drive the same police vehicles,  respond to the same calls for service and exercise the same police authority as career police officers.

After gaining sufficient uniform police officer experience, reserve police officers then have the opportunity to work in many specialty assignments such as  detectives, motorcycle officers, school resource officers, pilots, airport officers, transit officers, recruitment officers and  training officers, among other assignments.

In addition to working in both uniform patrol and specialty assignments, reserve police officers partipate in special enforcement and community engagement events, including major professional sporting events, dignitary protection, and community charitable events. Reserve police officers are an integral component of the police department's community policing plan.
