HIRING PROCESS

Below is the step-by-step process to become a reserve police recruit. Upon successful completion of all of these steps, applicants will be placed into the pre-hire program while waiting to attend training at the Phoenix Police Reserve Academy.

STEP 1: COMPLETE AZPOST PERSONAL HISTORY PACKET

• Go to my.azpost.gov and register for an account
• Return to my.azpost.gov and log into the newly created account
• Complete the AZPOST Personal History Statement 
• During the “Share” portion of the application, select “Phoenix Police Department”
• **Record the Form ID number located at the top of this page for your records as this will be needed in the next step.**

STEP 2: CONTACT THE RESERVE DIVISION

• Contact a Reserve Division Recruiting Officer, either by emailing Police.Reserve@Phoenix.Gov or by calling 602-534-9000 to let them know the online application has been completed. The applicant will need to provide the AZPOST form ID number at this time.
• **We have no way of knowing an application has been submitted unless we are notified by the applicant**

STEP 3: Physical Ability Test (PAT)

• A Physical Ability Test (PAT) will be scheduled

The PAT is designed to reflect the real-world physical demands of policing. Candidates will complete a series of tasks that simulate essential job functions, including:

• Obstacle navigation: climbing over barriers and maneuvering through tight spaces.

• Pursuit simulation: short-distance sprinting and directional changes.

• Victim rescue: dragging a weighted dummy to safety.

• Equipment carry: lifting and transporting weighted objects.

The requirement for successful completion of the PAT is to finish the course in two minutes and six seconds (2:06) or less. The test is graded on a pass/fail basis.

STEP 4: eSOPH

• Following the successful completion of the PAT, applicants will be provided a link and password for Phoenix Police Department’s eSOPH account.
• ***Even if an applicant has used eSOPH as part of another agency’s hiring process, they will still be required to complete the tasks again for the application with Phoenix Police***
• Applicants will have approximately two weeks to create an  account and complete the 40 tasks that are set forth by eSOPH
• These tasks will include downloading, completing, notarizing, and uploading the Authorization Release and Confidential Agreement Form
• Obtaining two color passport-type photographs in business attire which will also be uploaded

STEP 5: BACKGROUND INTERVIEW

After successful completion of all eSOPH tasks, applicants will be contacted by a background investigator to schedule an interview.

 STEP 6: POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION

Applicants will be given a polygraph examination (lie detector test) administered by a trained, professional examiner. The test will confirm information noted on the applicant's background packet.

 STEP 7: PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST

Applicants will be evaluated by a licensed psychologist.

 STEP 8: MEDICAL EXAMINATION

Applicants will undergo a complete medical examination given by a licensed physician.

 STEP 9: CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCREENING

Applicants will be required to submit to a urinalysis at some point in the hiring process.
